Cayetana and Valerio is the third episode of the third season of Elite, and the nineteenth episode of the series overall.
Synopsis[]
Polo is harassed at school. Samuel mulls the police's offer as he and Rebeka become closer. Ander struggles with his treatment.
Plot[]
The episode begins at school, with the entire student body glued to their phones as a tweet in Polo's name goes viral, reading: “Of course I killed Marina. Did you still doubt it?” The tweet brings Samuel and Guzmán into the Principal’s office since they are the prime suspects. Azucena shows the two more tweets in Polo's name, such as "She was still alive when I left. Poor thing. I should have hit her harder." Azucena tells Samuel and Guzmán that impersonating someone online is a crime and harassment. The two neither confirm nor deny that they are behind these tweets, and they bring the conversation back to Polo's mothers' scholarship donation, which stops the principal's line of questioning.
Samuel and Rebeka continue to hook up, but Samuel is obviously only involved because of Carla’s new relationship with Yeray. Rebeka admits to being insecure around him and the duo continue to grow closer together.
Nadia’s father expresses concerns over her daughter potentially going to school in New York by herself, but Malick arrives, promising them that he’ll look after her since he will be studying there too. In private, he cheekily admits to Nadia that he lied to her parents about looking after her, so that she can follow her dreams without her parents worrying. He then invites Nadia out to the upcoming Silicon Valley party, saying he can act as "Allah's perfect son" so her parents will allow her to attend.
Samuel is taken down the police station where he’s told that Nano's name could be cleared in the near future. However, they task Samuel with gaining crucial intel on Sandra's illegal drug business in return. This, of course, puts Samuel in a difficult position given he’s romantically involved with Rebeka.
At Samuel’s house, the group gather and discuss what to do about Polo. Guzmán expresses his hatred for Polo and says he deserves everything he gets, as well as scolding Ander for keeping the secret and lying. Ander admits to Guzmán that Polo tried to kill himself due to the guilt, but Guzmán doesn't want to hear it. He tells Ander he hopes that one day he gets what he deserves, too. Valerio listens in secret to the entire conversation behind the door.
Polo is isolating himself from the school, refusing to come out of his room. Cayetana slides a note under the door for him. As he opens the note, he finally opens the door and invites her in to talk.
Yeray’s party begins and Carla hooks up with him after talking about money and how he managed to make it on his own. Samuel arrives shortly after, and she talks with him about Polo. With her father watching from afar, she dismisses him and tells Samuel to leave.
Valerio sits with Polo and tells him he sees everything – including mentioning the threesome he had. He goes on to tell him he’s different and as he turns his attention to Cayetana, he calls her fascinating. Later, Carla's father tells her that the family is on the verge of bankruptcy, so she needs to seduce Yeray in order to potentially gain a wealthy investor to save the family.
Samuel decides to go through with the police's deal, and agrees to secretly provide them info to bring down Sandra's drug business.
At the party, Carla's father greets Yeray and attempts to get him to invest in the family winery, but he seems disinterested and walks away, embarrassing Carla. Guzmán gets jealous when he spots Nadia kissing Malick. He then sees Polo dancing on the dance floor, immediately distracting him and nearly bringing him to attack again. Ander tries to stop him from doing anything rash but Guzmán lashes out, prompting Omar to get involved. He tells him to leave Ander alone since he’s sick, spilling the truth about his leukemia. This brings all three of them into the toilets where Ander admits to not wanting to go through chemotherapy since he feels he does not deserve to live. A shocked Guzmán sits with him and reassures him that there are no ill-feelings, especially given the secret Ander was holding that ate away at him. Guzmán encourages Ander to go through with his therapy.
As Polo starts to get into the groove of the party, another tweet is posted in his name, telling the crowd to stop staring at the murderer since he tried killing himself. This is too much for Polo to deal with and he walks away, but it is shown that it wasn’t actually Guzmán who wrote the tweet this time. Malick introduces himself to Omar, and tells him he is pursuing Nadia. However, Malick seems flabbergasted when Omar informs him he is gay.
Samuel leaves the party quite early, and waits in front of Rebeka's house until she arrives. He tells her he was "overwhelmed" by the party and had to leave. When they enter her house, Samuel places a hidden microphone under the dining table, unbeknownst to Rebeka.
At home, Polo’s parents comfort him, listening in shock as Polo admits he wants to disappear and get away from the town. Cayetana listens as they agree for him to finish the school year in London. Polo thanks them for their help and goes on to embrace his parents as Cayetana averts their gaze.
At school in the pouring rain, Polo confronts Guzmán over the tweets and tells him he’s ruined the chance to get rid of him. No schools will take him on thanks to the tweet being forwarded to every school. This leaves him in a tricky position, forcing him to continue on at Las Encinas.
In the future, we see Valerio and Cayetana hooking up together at a party but they stop when they notice Polo arriving. Cayetana pleads with Valerio to leave Polo alone and as he’s handed a bottle of champagne, we see this bottle is the exact same one that was smashed the night of Polo's death.
In the aftermath of Polo's murder, Valerio whispers to Cayetana, pleading with her not to tell anyone what happened. The inspector tells Cayetana (who has blood dripping from her fingers) it’s her turn to be interviewed. As she leaves, we cut back and see the contents of her note to Polo, which reads: “You are the opposite of a murderer, you saved my life”. However, it is revealed that Cayetana was the one who sent the tweet about Polo's suicide attempt.
