I've got the feeling anything I say will be used against me. So I'll remain silent.
— Samuel, in "Bienvenidos"

Samuel García Domínguez (June 25, 2002), commonly referred to as Samu, is a main character through Seasons 1-5 of the Netflix series Elite, serving as the main protagonist of its first overall story arc and one of the two overarching protagonists (along with Guzmán) of its second overall story arc. Samuel is a scholarship student at Las Encinas. Prior to attending Las Encinas, Samuel was a student at San Esteban before it collapsed. He is portrayed by Itzan Escamilla.

Early life[]

Background[]

After his brother Nano is incarcerated, Samuel takes on a part-time job as a waiter to help support himself and his mother. Prior to the pilot, it is clear that Samuel is considered to be somewhat of an innocent person by his friends and his brother.

Throughout the Series[]

Season 1[]

Relationship with Marina[]

Following the collapse of his school, San Esteban, Samuel is injured and receives a scholarship — funded by Ventura Nunier, Marina's father — to attend the elite private school, Las Encinas. He is constantly discriminated against due to his low-income background and those from wealthy families look down on him, particularly Guzmán.[1]

Despite Guzmán's disapproval, Samuel grows closer with his sister, Marina, and the two begin spending more and more time together; this is magnified when the two pair up for Martín's social media project.[2]Tensions arise during the project, however, when Samuel finds out that Ventura and TeoCarla's father — used cheap materials during the renovation of San Esteban, therefore insinuating that they were aware of the possibility of collapse. Furthermore, Marina is aware of the documents and evidence that would incriminate her father.

Nano's Behavior[]

Samuel's relationship with Marina is tested when it is revealed that his brother owes a gang upwards of €60,000 for protection they provided while he was incarcerated. Nano learns of the incriminating evidence and asks Samuel to help in retrieving them in a bid to blackmail Marina's father for the money. Despite knowing it is morally incorrect, Samuel agrees to help Nano, and unsuccessfully attempts to obtain the documents.[2]

Samuel eventually tells Nano that he can no longer help him. The relationship between them becomes strained when Samuel finds out that someone else slept with Marina and got her pregnant. While Samuel doesn't initially suspect that it was his own brother, Nano becomes wary and anxious that Samuel could find out at any moment.

Eventually, Samuel finds out that it was Nano that slept with Marina and the two fight. He witnesses Nano running away from Marina's dead body the night she is murdered and tells the authorities that he believes Nano to be the killer.[9]

Season 2[]

Samuel is the main focus of Season 2, as he desperately tries to figure out who murdered Marina to try and exonerate his brother, Nano, who is stuck in prison. Samuel befriends the new girl, Rebeka, who helps him get work doing illegal deliveries for her mother. He does this so he can make the bail money to get his brother out faster. Rebeka helps Samuel investigate Marina's murder.

Also throughout the season, we find out that Samuel has gone missing. Season 2 consists of flashbacks leading up to the point that Samuel goes missing. It's unclear if he was murdered or is just hiding. The Inspectora interviews everyone at Las Encinas to try and figure out what happened to Samuel.

In the flashbacks, Samuel starts to get chummy with Carla, after seeing what happened to Christian and understanding that Carla is somehow central to the mystery surrounding who murdered Marina. They start a secret relationship and have sex and keep each other company. Samuel tries to steal Carla's phone to get information from it. He does hear a voicemail from Polo saying that he confessed to Ander what he did.

Samuel eventually connects the dots, after seeing photos on Instagram from the night that Marina was murdered, realizing that Polo likely is the murderer. Samuel and Rebeka realized that Polo changed his shirt during the night of the murder. He changed into Christian's shirt. Samuel realizes that Christian was protecting Polo and this is why Carla and Polo had to silence him.

Season 3[]

Once again, Samuel takes on a leading role in Season 3 as he desperately tries to get his brother exonerated and to punish Polo for committing and concealing the murder of Marina. This is the first season in which Samuel and Guzmán have stood alongside each other as friends and allies, although they continue to frequently disagree over how best to carry out their revenge plan.

At the beginning of the season, Samuel is convinced that his brother will be exonerated following the statements made by Carla that Polo was guilty of Marina's murder. However, Polo still refuses to admit to his guilt and has concealed the murder weapon. Samuel and Pilar receive a post card and speak on the phone with Nano, who speaks to them about how well he is doing in his new life and how happy he is. Pilar reassures Nano that he will be found innocent but Samuel appears to no longer be sure, especially as it appears as though Carla will not testify in the open court confrontation with Polo, as she risks losing everything if she does. Nano begs both Samuel and Pilar to join him and they agree. Samuel intends to drop out of school and leave with his mother but eventually decides against the idea. He is desperate to bring Polo to justice, feeling that he must suffer for what he has done. Rebeka suggests that Samuel take Valerio in as a roommate, as he is now going to be living alone.

Although Carla has admitted to being an accessory to murder, Samuel’s strong feelings for her are evident. He begs her to be brave and to tell the truth in the confrontation with Polo. He tells her that he knows she is afraid and scared of losing everything but that she will always have him. Carla responds by slapping him and insinuating that he only loves her while he is manipulating her. Samuel is angry and disappointed when Carla backs out at the last moment while confessing she knows Polo killed Marina and says she made the whole thing up out of anger towards her ex-boyfriend and bitterness towards her father. But Samuel does not give up on her. He arrives at her house and begs her to return to school, telling her that he truly cares for her and that he wants to be with her. However, Carla remains distrustful and aloof.

Guzmán and Samuel begin plotting revenge against Polo. Polo is ostracized at school and Guzmán assaults him in the hallway. On one occasion, Guzmán lulls Polo into a false sense of security. He leads Samuel and his other classmates to believe that he no longer believes Polo to be the murderer and he invites Polo over to his house to play video games. In reality his beliefs have not changed and he drugs Polo and before tying him to a chair, calls Samuel for backup. It is clear that Samuel is uncomfortable with this but he wants Polo to confess almost as badly as Guzmán does so he goes along with it.

When Polo awakens, Samuel and Guzmán interrogate him until he admits to them that he murdered Marina. He cries and exclaims that it was an accident but expresses fear for his own life. In a rage, Guzmán starts choking him but Samuel stops him before things get too far, releasing Polo and ordering him to leave. Samuel and Guzmán make a fake Twitter account under Polo's name and write tweets admitting to the murder. When Ander reveals that Polo tried to kill himself following Marina's murder, Guzmán and Samuel plan to use that against him too but they eventually decide against it. However, that information is later publicized by Cayetana.

Rebeka eventually admits the truth about her feelings to Samuel and they kiss and have sex. However, she remains distrustful and insecure in their relationship as it is obvious that Samuel still has underlying feelings for Carla.

Samuel is asked by the police to plant a microphone in Rebeka's house in order to reveal her mother's drug business. Samuel is reluctant to do this at first even though it would ensure his brother's freedom. This situation helps him to better understand Carla's decision to remain silent about the murder in court. He tells her this but she remains hostile and cold towards him. Samuel eventually decides to go through with this plan out of loyalty to his brother and he plants a device in Rebeka's house. As a result of this, Rebeka's mother is arrested and Rebeka is left alone, with little money. She goes to Samuel's house and reveals how vulnerable she is feeling, telling him that he is all she has right now. Samuel begins to feel guilty and at one point it appears as though he is about to tell Rebeka that he is the snitch that got her mom arrested, but she kisses him before he can be honest with her.

When Rebeka finds her mother's stash of drugs, Samuel is against the idea of her selling it as he doesn't want her to end up like her mother, but she promises she will stop once it is all sold and that after that they will lead normal and boring lives. Rebeka begins to suspect that Samuel is the person who bugged her house and decides to test him. She tricks him into believing that she has contacted her mother's security company to access CCTV footage in the house. She meets with the supposed security guard who supplies her with the footage, she then orders Samuel to guard her bag while they are at the Black Party. Unknown to Samuel her bag has been covered in UV paint, so when he gets rid of the bag, the paint it gets all over his hands. When all the lights go out at the black party, his hands light up, proving that he betrayed her. Rebeka is hurt and ends their relationship.

Samuel's feelings for Carla remain strong and he cannot take his eyes off of her in the club. He becomes worried about her when he discovers that she has turned to drugs as a form of escapism. He watches her and eventually confronts her, begging her to see sense. Carla does not listen. He then confronts Valerio and tells him to stop selling her drugs, he then kicks Valerio out of his house. Samuel exposes Valerio to Polo and blames Polo for everything that has transpired over the past year. He argues with Guzmán and tells him that now that they have stopped tormenting Polo, they no longer have any reason to associate with each other. Guzmán does not accept this and shows up later at Samuel's home, begging him to celebrate the end of the school year.

Samuel with his friends the night of Polo's death

Samuel is later expelled from Las Encinas a day before graduation on account of bullying Polo. He attends the graduation party anyway, and is privy to the events leading up to Polo's death. He partakes in covering up the death as a suicide. Later, he is sad when Carla leaves to continue her education, but enrols at Las Encinas again — along with Rebeka, Omar, Ander, and Guzmán — to finish his final year.[10]

Elite Short Stories: Carla Samuel[]

During their short story, Samuel makes a romantic move and tries to persuade Carla not to leave for London. As her flight is postponed for a couple of hours they decide to spend together their last few moments. They return to his house and they have sex. Carla realises that coming back is a mistake despite not wanting to leave Samuel. Eventually, she decides to stay in Spain for the time being and puts her studies on hold. However her relationship with Samuel is facing yet another crisis when Carla asks Samuel to help him with his money issues. After a little disagreement they had. Samuel returns home only to find Carla missing, thus believing she packed her things and left. He then sends her some voice messages and while being emotionally unstable he complains and implies that they don't work together as a couple. Eventually Carla returns home after visiting her parents and realises that Samuel's now erased messages were his goodbyes towards her. Later that night, Carla decides to send her own last voice message to Samuel explaining that she understands that their relationship is dysfunctional and she has to let him go but she admits that she will always love him. In the end, she leaves Samuel to go to London and Samuel wakes up to find out about her message to him.

Season 4[]

At the beginning of the new school year, there is a new principal. He wants to see if Samuel and Omar are worthy of staying at Las Encinas on their scholarships and asks them to take a placement exam. Samuel is frustrated that he has to prove he's worthy of staying but he takes the test and passes, so he gets to stay.

He seems interested in the new girl, Ari. Samuel throws a "Towel Party" and Ari gets drunk and sleeps with Samuel, but she seems ashamed in the morning and pushes him away. After Ari starts dating Guzmán, it's clear she still has feelings for Samuel and they sleep together again.

At the end of the season, Samuel seems to be blamed for Ari getting pushed in the pool but eventually his name is cleared.

Elite Short Stories: Samuel Omar[]

It's Christmas time, and Samuel is about to be evicted from his apartment after discovering that his mother has not paid the rent on their apartment for the last 14 years, and in order to keep it, Samuel needs to come up with €25,000 or he would be living on the streets. Knowing that his country club salary doesn't even come close to covering the debt, he sets out to find a way to pay it off. He turns to Omar, who assists him in creating an account similar to OnlyFans and begins earning thousands of dollars from anonymous risqué photos. It went smoothly for a few days, and they were able to raise the necessary €25,000. However, Samuel becomes addicted to the scene and begins sharing additional photos, this time displaying his face in some of them. It remains secretive until a student from school notices a picture with Samuel's school uniform on and reports Samuel and Omar to Principial Benjamín, who revokes Samuel and Omar's scholarship and prohibits the two boys from returning to the new semester. Omar and Samuel start squabbling about the fact that they were kicked out of school and start blaming each other for starting the account, to the point that they don't speak to each other for a few days. When Rebeka and Cayetana come over to drink with them, the two males eventually make up. In order to get Omar and Samuel's expulsion overturned, Rebeka encourages every student in the school to submit improper images of themselves while wearing uniforms in exchange for a date with her. Almost all of the students follow the instructions in the post and submit inappropriate photos of themselves in uniform. It was a ploy to force Benjamín to choose between allowing Samuel and Omar to return to Las Encinas or suspending the entire senior class for uploading similar photographs to Samuel. Fortunately, the plan works out, and at the end of the short, Benjamín phones Samuel to inform him that Omar and Samuel have been let back and will be reinstated as students at Las Encinas.

Season 5[]

At the start of the spring semester in Season 5, it's clear that Omar and Samuel have been arguing since they returned from the winter break. Samuel reminds Omar that he is a guest in his home and that he has the right to kick him out at any time, but Omar remains firm and even invites in a homeless teenager named Bilal whom he met at the Lake Club, which irritates Samuel even more when he believes Bilal took his laptop to make money, but Samuel discovers his laptop in his room under his bed. When Benjamín holds a contest to see who will stay or be expelled, Omar decides to suspend Samuel. Later in the episode, when Samuel comes home upset, Omar tries to explain that Samuel being suspended was the best thing that could have happened because he was so close with Benjamín, as opposed to having his scholarship taken away, but Samuel doesn't want to hear any more and pushes Omar out of his apartment.

Benjamín and Samuel also start bumping heads more than usual, since Benjamín sees Samuel as a threat rather than a student, and is outraged to see that Ari and Samuel are still seeing each other despite her attack. Benjamín begins to play psychological games and manipulate Samuel into believing he has a chance in the real world after his senior year is finished if he becomes his relatively right-hand man in school operations. Soon after, Samuel discovers what Benjamín is up to and provides him with fake information on students to suspend, resulting in the detention of innocent students. Samuel begins meeting Ari in secret, but Ari refuses to keep her feelings for him hidden just so her father won't find out, but Samuel tells Ari that if Benjamín finds out, he will punish him far more severely than suspending him. Ari, for the most part, understands and continues to see him in private. Samuel breaks up with Ari after she cheats on him with Iván.

Samuel's loyalty to Benjamín is challenged when he takes the fall for Armando's murder after his body washes up on shore during the charity auction, and it is revealed that if he does take the fall, Benjamín would have him financially set for life. However, once Samuel was released, it was discovered that Iván, not Benjamín, had bailed Samuel out of jail. Samuel quickly realizes that Benjamín was only worried about himself and did not intend to keep his promise. He soon joins forces with Rebeka in bringing Benjamín down, assisting her in her search for the SIM and memory card from Armando's phone in order to prove to authorities that Benjamín had contact with Armando before Armando's death. After much pleading, Mencia gives Rebeka the SIM and memory card, which Samu removes from her locker and tells her he's going to the cops. Later in the episode, a flashback shows Samu receiving a phone call from Benjamín stating that the transaction is back on and that they might meet the following day to finalize the deal.

In the season finale, Samuel agrees to meet with Benjamín to work out an agreement involving the SIM and memory card in exchange for financial security for the rest of his life. But, while they were negotiating, Samuel realizes that what he was doing was a mistake and decided that it was a better idea to go to the authorities with the evidence he had on Benjamín and let them handle the rest, as Rebeka had planned in the beginning. However, when Samuel decides to leave and back out of the agreement, Benjamín becomes enraged and begins fighting with Samuel over the SIM and memory card, and accidentally knocks Samuel over the edge of the pool, where he hits his head and bleeds to death as a result of the accident. Benjamín was later shown being detained by the police who Mencía had called, and it was shown that the cops have the SIM and memory card.

Physical Appearance[]

Samuel is a handsome man with dark, brown/black hair and strong facial features. He is attractive to those around him, especially Carla, Marina, Rebeka, Ari and Iván.

Personality[]

Samuel is charismatic and befriends those around him easily. He is caring and compassionate, however also shy, introverted and cold to those who wrong him. In Seasons 2 and 3, it seems like he has an accusatory glance. He also becomes more manipulative and scheming after hanging out with Carla. While affectionate to those closest to him, he was quick to lash out towards Nano when he discovered Nano had slept with Marina. Samuel's involvement in bullying Polo — despite having valid reason — shows his harsher, darker side. He was not afraid to sell out then girlfriend Rebeka in a bid to clear his brother's name.

Relationships[]

Marina[]

Samuel befriended Marina when he first transferred to Las Encinas. The two quickly became friends and shortly after, a relationship began between the two — Samuel did not seem bothered when it was revealed that Marina was HIV+. After Samuel found out that Marina was pregnant, he quickly turned on her and agrees to help Nano retrieve incriminating files on her father. The two stopped dating as Marina planned to run away with Nano.

Samuel was upset when Marina was killed and, believing Nano to be the killer, he told the police about his suspicions.

Carla[]

Samuel and Carla began a relationship shortly after Polo was released by the authorities. The two kept things casual, but eventually began an official relationship. Rebeka[]

Rebeka eventually admitted the truth about her feelings to Samuel and they kissed. However, she remained distrustful and insecure in their relationship as it was obvious that Samuel still had underlying feelings for Carla. When Rebeka found her mother's stash of drugs, Samuel was against the idea of her selling it as he didn't want her to end up like her mother, but she promised she would stop once it was all sold and that after that they would lead normal and boring lives. Rebeka began to suspect that Samuel was the person who bugged her house and decided to test him. She tricked him into believing that she had contacted her mother's security company to access CCTV footage in the house. She met with the supposed security guard who supplied her with the footage, she then ordered Samuel to guard her bag while they were at the Black Party. Unknown to Samuel her bag has been covered in UV paint, so when he got rid of the bag, the paint got all over his hands. When all the lights went out at the party, his hands lit up, proving that he betrayed her. Rebeka was hurt and ended their relationship.

Guzmán[]

Guzmán and Samuel started off with a rocky relationship. At the beginning of Season 1, Guzmán had an immediate disdain for Samuel, as he thought that all scholarship students would be like Pablo, the student who infected Marina with HIV. He often referred to Samuel as Waiter (or el camarero in Spanish) and told him to go back to his town. After Marina Nunier Osuna's Death, Guzmán's disdain for Samuel grew as he believed that Nano killed Marina and that she would not have been murdered if not for Samuel attending Las Encinas.

In Season 2, Samuel realised that Polo was Marina's killer and passed this information to Guzmán. At first, Guzmán dismissed this information believing that Samuel was simply trying to help Nano. However, after noticing Ander and Polo's strange behaviour, he realised that Samuel's theory appeared to make sense. Later, after a party, Samuel and Guzmán agreed to meet up at Guzmán's grandparents' house, where Samuel ended up hiding. Guzmán helped Samuel stay hidden and left "evidence" of his death. This disappearance ultimately forced Carla to reveal Polo's involvement in Marina's murder. In later seasons, Guzmán and Samuel's disdain for each soon begins to turn into a friendship as they start to bond over the recent trauma they've had in their lives.
