The fourth season of Netflix's Elite was announced by the cast and crew on May 22, 2020, It was released worldwide on June 18, 2021.

Synopsis[]

Season 4 picks up with a new school year at Las Encinas, as well as a new director Benjamín Blanco: one of the most powerful businessmen in Europe, ready to bring the exclusive high school back on track, after all the scandals it had to weather these past 2 years. He brings his three children with him (Carla Díaz, Martina Cariddi, Manu Ríos): three students who are too used to always getting their own way, and to have what they want when they want, no matter who falls, and who will jeopardize the union and strong friendship of the students who have stayed at the school.[2]

Production[]

The cast revealed via Twitter that they had received their scripts. This reveal was against rumors that there would be a completely new cast for Season 4.

Álvaro Rico, Danna Paola, Ester Expósito, Jorge López and Mina El Hammani revealed that they would not be returning for the fourth installment of the series.[5] El Hammani was however, in the first three episodes of Season 4, albeit still credited as a series regular, and later reprised her role in Season 8.

Leïti Sène and Sergio Momo, who were introduced in Season 3, also did not return.

On July 20, 2020, the four new cast members (Carla Díaz, Martina Cariddi, Manu Rios and Pol Granch) were introduced on the Elite Twitter[6] and Instagram[7] pages. Other sources further revealed that Andrés Velencoso and Diego Martín would be joining the cast as well.

Filming started on August 3, 2020, but suspended the day after, when they found out a case of COVID-19 among the cast and crew. [8] Filming resumed the following week after the positive COVID-19 case was reported as fake.[9] Filming wrapped on December 22, 2020.

  • Whilst the fourth season of Elite was not officially renewed by Netflix, fans were made aware of the fourth season through the official Twitter account where in the cast revealed that they had received their scripts.
  • Carlos Montero, Diego Betancor and Jaime Vaca are the executive producers.[10]
    • Eduardo Chapero Jackson and Ginesta Guindal are the directors.[10]
    • Jaime Vaca, David Lorenzo, Almudena Ocaña and Esther Morales are the screenwriters.[10]
  • On December 22, 2020, the Elite Instagram page announced that they finished filming the season and shared some behind the scene pictures.[11]

  • This is the first season to feature a girl-to-girl relationship, Mencía and Rebe. This is also the first season to feature an exclusively gay threesome, Ander, Omar and Patrick.
  • On February 25, 2021, it was revealed that the series had been renewed for a fifth season. This announcement came before the fourth season was ever released.[12]
  • This is the last season to feature Miguel Bernardeau and Arón Piper.
  • It was the first season to be released during the summer as most of the other seasons were released either in the Fall or late Spring.
  • The release date was announced on April 12, 2021.[1]
  • The official trailer dropped on May 20, 2021.
  • The series premiered on the same day of 2021 LGTBQI Pride (2021 Pride Toronto).
  • This is the first season not to show the Inspector as the detective of the mystery. It's also the first season to not show Azucena as Las Encinas principal.
  • This is the first season to feature adults as main characters.
  • Azucena and Sandra are the only original recurring characters to appear in this season.
