Joel Castellano Soler was a main character in the seventh and eighth season of the Netflix series Elite. He is portrayed by Fernando Líndez.
Biography[]
Joel was kicked out of his home by his parents, at age 15 or 16, when he came out as gay. He lived several months homeless before moving to Madrid. In Madrid, Joel reached out for assistance from an at-risk youth clinic where Omar was working to help at-risk and homeless youth. Omar invited Joel to come and live in his apartment and began a sexual relationship with him.
Throughout the Series[]
Season 7[]
Joel is a ray of light despite the constant blows life has dealt him. Very humble and surviving day by day, he's clear that he can't afford to have dreams beyond the present. Until, suddenly, the possibility arises for him to make a 180-degree turn in his life. He is originally introduced as a pizza boy when he delivers to Iván, who is instantly interested in him. Iván is still struggling with his fathers death and the money he gets from it, and after connecting with Joel, he offers to pay for Joel to attend Las Encinas. When he gets his acceptance offer, Omar tries to convince him to go anywhere else but Joel is very determined. As Joel attends Las Encinas, him and Iván become closer which causes a rift and eventual breakup between Joel and Omar. At the end of the season, when Iván goes to South Africa, he invites Joel to come with him and pay for everything. Joel wants to go because he is in love with Iván, but Dalmar convinces him not to because then Joel would be a 'kept man'.
Season 8[]
Joel's death is the whole mystery in this season. His body is first seen covered in blood. His fights with many characters and the harm of his actions and feelings lead to one of them to eventually kill him. Joel still struggles with feeling like a burden and a kept man which is the main reason for the decisions he makes. He meets Héctor when Héctor and Emilia give their presentation about the Alumni club. Héctor had been following his social media and when he see Joel, he stops mid speech and just stares at him. Later in the locker room, he talks to Joel about joining and offers to be his sponsor. Joel refuses because he can tell that Héctor just wants to sleep with him and Omar had warned him based on Nadia’s experience with them. At the start, he has been staying in Omar’s bed while Omar has been staying at his parents’. Omar comes home and eventually kicks him out. Joel lies and says that Iván offered his home for Joel to stay in, but ends up staying in the Alumni club at the school. Héctor finds him that first night, and instead of kicking him out, he hits on him and tries to convince him to join.
Physical Appearance[]
Joel is a tall, handsome young man. He has brown eyes and dark hair. He's usually wearing the school uniform or casual clothes.
Personality[]
He is a hard working guy, who thinks he can't afford to have a good future. He's a smiling boy and due to him coming from a poor family, he's a humble person, who doesn't brag about anything. He's sensitive, and, as shown, he worries for people he loves. However, when the members of Alumni arrive to Las Encinas, he acts in a way that could be considered ambitious and behaves indifferent to the harm they do to other people, even his friends.
Relationships[]
Joel and Iván[]
Joel and Iván meet in a very particular situation: Joel is delivering pizzas to Iván's house, but Iván falls to the ground because of his crutches so can't open the door. Joel helps him get up, and they head to his house. When Iván asks him to stay, he accepts the offer. He tells Iván about how much he wishes he was rich, and Iván tells him he's peaceful around him. The two of them kiss, but Joel refuses to take things further, since he's Omar's boyfriend and doesn't want to cheat on him. Iván asks him to be his friend, and offers to pay his school fees. Later on, Iván meets Joel at Las Encinas, and gives him an outfit to wear at a school event. While Iván is waiting for an answer, Joel doesn't know what to do: he likes Iván but doesn't want to break up with Omar, because he's scared that he might get bad again.
